How to Cut Fresh Fruit
Cutting fresh fruit can be a lot easier if you know a few tricks. These time-saving strategies also allow you to get the most uniform cuts, which are often an important requirement to give your fruit displays and fruit salads a professional look. Slicing fruit is best done with a sharp knife, as you are sometimes required to make tricky slices. Cut the top and bottom edge of the fruit. Do this with one swift motion. Fresh fruit will not require you to saw a sharp knife back and forth. Whether you are cutting citrus or melons, your fruit will have a stem and many have a tough area on the other side that needs to be cut off.

Slice away the peel from top to bottom down the sides of the fruit with a sharp knife. You will need a firm grip on your knife as the skin on fresh fruit is sturdy. This isn't required on fruit that doesn't have a peel. Slice any remaining white pulp from the fruit. This technique can be applied to citrus, melons, kiwi, apples and virtually any fruit that has a peel you want to cut off. Fruits such as bananas can be peeled with your hands.

Cut the fruit into wedges by slicing it through the middle and then angling your knife on the sides to cut out wedges. This can be done with many types of fruits, though bananas can be cut diagonally. You may also choose to cut fruit that is normally wedged, such as oranges and watermelon, into diagonal sections.
