How to Re-Ink a Trodat

Trodat manufactures several types of stamps. The two primary types are stamps that have an ink reservoir-style text plate and stamps with inkpad cartridges. Trodat stamps designed with a reservoir text plate have four ink refill holes. Re-inking these stamps is as simple as removing the plate and adding ink to the holes. Trodat stamps designed with an inkpad cartridge are replaceable. Re-inking these stamps is as simple as replacing the existing Trodat SWOP-pad or compatible inkpad cartridge with a new one. In both cases, re-inking your stamp should only take less than 5 minutes.

Instructions

  1. Ink-Reservoir Text Plate Stamps

    • 1

Cover your workspace with paper towels or newspaper and put on a pair of gloves.

    • 2

Attach the dust cover to the bottom of your Trodat ink-reservoir text plate stamp.

    • 3

Place your thumb or fingernail in the groove on the top of the stamp and pry the removable cap form the top. Set the cap aside.

    • 4

Turn the release pin so that it lines up with the slit. Press down on the pin while lifting up on the main body of the stamp to reveal the text plate. Press the cap back onto the top of the main body and set the piece aside.

    • 5

Refill the four ink holes on the text plate. When finished, align the main body with the plate and then push it down on the plate to lock the two pieces together with a click.

    • 6

Push down on the top of stamp to make certain that it works correctly and then remove the dust cover and use the stamp as desired.

    Inkpad Cartridge Stamps

    • 7

Press down on the top slightly -- about a 1/4 inch -- and press in on the locking buttons on the left and right sides at the same time to lock the stamp in this pressed position.

    • 8

Push and slide the ink cartridge from its slot within the stamp. Press the button on the front of the stamp or press your fingertip against the black bank front edge of the cartridge at the front. Rotate the stamp forward, away from you slightly, to slide the cartridge out and then set the cartridge aside for disposal.

    • 9

Insert the new cartridge into the slot and press down on the top of the stamp to lock the cartridge inside the slot. If the cartridge has two clips on it, insert the non-clipped side first and press the cartridge into the slot until the clips fall off and then push down on the top. When finished, test the stamp by pressing down on the top.
