How to Learn Icelandic
Icelandic, the language spoken in Iceland, has grammar similar to that of Latin and Old Norse, a medieval Germanic language. While community college and universities typically offer foreign language classes for Spanish, French and German, you may encounter issues finding a larger variety of courses on other languages, such as Icelandic. To learn this language, you have options other than going to a college to learn, in which you will be learning independently and at your own pace.

1
Learn Icelandic through instructional CD's or DVD's. This is a common way to learn a foreign language as you are able to choose the time and place where you go through your lessons. These types of instructions are found where media is sold, including online retailers. Follow through the instructions on the CD or DVD as many times as you need to understand the material and to speak fluently.

2
Take an online course that teaches Icelandic. Online courses allow you to work at your own pace and repeat course materials that seemed confusing the first time they were presented. You will have assignments that slowly walk you through the different aspects of learning this language.

3
Take private lessons on Icelandic from a tutor who speaks and teaches the language. You can find ads for a language tutor in the local newspaper, on bulletin board at your local adult or community college and on the Internet.

4
Play digital games about the Icelandic language to practice what you have learned. These interactive games give you entertainment while you learn about numbers, letters, words and phrases, greetings, colors, animals and other vocabulary sets.
