Walmart employs more than 2 million associates in 15 countries in its retail stores. Applicants must pass two interviews, a drug test and background check before Walmart extends an offer of employment. The first and second stages of the interview take place in one day. Walmart receives the results of the background check and the drug test within approximately four business days. Upon receipt of a clear background check and drug test, Walmart extends an offer of employment.

Applicants submit job applications online or through a kiosk located in a Walmart store. The application takes 30 minutes to one hour to complete. Once the application is submitted, the applicant waits for a phone call to schedule the first interview.

Second Round Interviews

If the applicant passes the first interview, the interviewer schedules a second interview on the same day. The manager asks a series of questions pertaining to employment history and leadership qualities. Role playing activities determine how the applicant reacts in specific situations. If the manager feels the applicant is a good fit for Walmart employment, the manager schedules a drug test and background check.

Complete the drug test and background check within 24 hours. The personnel department at the interviewing store schedules the drug test during the interview process. Not completing the drug test within 24 hours voids the interview. The applicant will not pass this part of the interview process and cannot apply for employment again for one year. The background check requires completion of the paperwork on the same scheduled day of the drug test.

Review Employment Offer

Schedule an appointment to review employment offer. After passing the drug test and background check, applicants receive a call from the personnel department to schedule a time to review the employment offer. At the meeting, a manager offers employment details, including pay rate, potential work schedule, hours needed and other job details. If the applicant agrees to the details of the job offer, the applicant moves to the final stage of employment.
