Origami Panda Bear Instructions
Origami has been a highly revered art form for centuries. According to PBS' "Between the Folds," origami dates back to the Edo period as a ceremonial and recreational art. Folding a panda bear is simple and perfect for a classroom activity or a family crafts night. For best results, use a piece of professional origami paper. For a traditional panda, look for a sheet of paper with black and white sides. Or you can choose from various colors and patterns to make your panda fun and distinctive.

1
Place a piece of origami paper colored side down. The white side should be facing up. Folding is easiest when working on a flat, even surface, such as a desk. Turn the paper so that it looks like a diamond shape.
-
2
Fold the top half of the diamond downward and crease. Open the paper.
-
-
3
Fold the right edge of the diamond toward the left and crease. Open the paper. You should have creased four triangles. These initial creases will help make future folding easier.
-
4
Take the open right point of the diamond and fold this piece halfway to the center. Repeat this move with the left point. The two points should meet near the center, but not at the center. The colored or black side of the paper should show now. These folds will become the panda's ears.
-
5
Fold the uppermost point down, until it reaches the bottom point. The top of your paper should now be a straight line and the bottom should be pointed.
-
6
Fold 1 inch of the panda's right side backward. Repeat with the left side.
-
7
Take the bottom point of the panda and fold the tip upward to create its nose and mouth. Fold this point one-third of the way up and crease firmly.
-
8
Color the panda in with markers, crayons or colored pencils. Draw large black eyes, a black nose and mouth. Be creative with its expressions. You can use googly eyes or glitter to decorate it as well.
