How to Make a High Converting Squeeze Page
Creating your squeeze page with conversion in mind from the start will make the difference between a squeeze page that grabs attention and leads versus a page that falls flat to the visitor's eye. Conversion is key to success when it comes to capturing lead information. Whether you are simply capturing the email addresses or full mailing address and phone numbers of your prospects, the page design needs to be stimulating with a clear path to your call to action.

1
Buy your domain name. Choose a name that includes your search terms.
-
2
Sign up for a Web hosting account -- Host Gator, Ice Storm and Fat Cow are affordable and provide reliable customer service. Update the DNS numbers at your registrar with those you get from your Web host.

3
Sign up for with an email marketing service -- AWeber and 1ShoppingCart offer a variety of options for building and segmenting your lists. Set up your autoresponder. You should have one message that is sent immediately when someone subscribes. Having a series of emails sent out over time is ultimately what you want to create -- repetition aids in recognition.

Use your HTML editor to design your Web page. It is best to use a CSS (cascading style sheet) rather than formatting with tables, but either will work.
The layout and flow of your design is the most important element for high conversion. The human eye has a focal point of about 1 inch by 1 inch. The more you can break up your design into chunks that fit the focal point the easier it will be for your visitors to take in.
Keep your paragraphs short. Break as much text up into bullet points as possible and use headings to split up long pieces of copy. People do not like to read and are put off by long text. Segmenting text will get your offer into their head without forcing them to read every word on the page. Position your opt-in box on the right side and use images to draw attention to it. Red arrows pointing to the sign-up box are very effective. Use a border around your opt-in to make it stand out even more.
Alternatively, position your opt-in box in a popover. This is not the same as a pop-up. Use a light box popover and it will not be blocked by browsers like most pop-ups are.
Make your offer compelling. People are inundated by marketing offers and are not going to sign up for your list unless you give them a good reason. Make your offer stand out from the crowd and people will be excited to sign up and receive information from you.

Upload your HTML files to your website through your FTP client. Your squeeze page should be your index.html file. This will put it on the root of your domain so when visitors go to yourdomain.com they will land on your squeeze page.
If all you are doing is capturing leads, you are done building. If you are offering a product after the squeeze you need to create a sales page for that product and set your opt-in to direct people to that page after they subscribe.

Tips & Warnings
Look at pages you have subscribed to and emulate ideas in those designs. If you follow any particular web "gurus" check out their pages and see what ideas you can incorporate into your design.
With any website you need to "always be testing." You're not stuck with your first design -- you can and should tweak your page and watch your statistics to see if your changes are increasing or decreasing your conversion.
While emulating good designs is fine, copying is not. Do not duplicate someone else's design.
