How to Tie a Tie Like a Pro

Place the tie around your neck with the wider end hanging by the left side of your neck. Let the wider end of the tie hang around 4 inches lower than the thinner end.

Cross the wide end over to the right side of your chest, and cross the thinner end of the tie over the wide end, letting it hang straight down.

Cross the wide end of the tie back across the thin end so that it lies on the left side of your chest.

Pull the wide end of the tie under the crossing parts of the end, under your chin and over. Pull it through the loop.

Hold the noose of the tie and gently push it up as you also pull down on the wide end of the tie. Pull the end until the tie is snug. Adjust the noose back and forth with your thumb and forefinger until it is straight and comfortable.

Tips & Warnings
The Kent knot illustrated in the Steps is the easiest and most versatile knot to tie, but variations for tying a necktie include the Half Windsor, Double Windsor, Four-in-hand and Prince Albert knot.
