How to Customize a V-ROD

How to Customize a V-ROD thumbnail
Harley-Davidson produces many of their own custom parts in-house.

The Harley-Davidson V-Rod is one of the new generation of motorcycles produced by Harley-Davidson to answer consumer complaints that Harley was not keeping pace with other manufacturers. This doesn't mean, however, that the V-Rod forgoes Harley-Davidson's legendary ability to allow riders to customize their rides. The V-Rod features loads of aftermarket parts that can be installed in just a few hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Install a passenger backrest on the V-Rod. This is done by first removing the passenger seat and then bolting the backrest into place. This improves passenger comfort as well as safety.

    • 2

Remove the stock seat and install an upgraded Harley-Davidson seat. A variety of specialty leather seats are available that look good and are also comfortable to ride on. Choose a seat produced by Harley-Davidson to retain the build quality of the original seat.

    • 3

Install heated hand grips in place of the stock V-Rod grips. Original V-Rod grips are fine on warm days, but when the temperature falls, heated grips are the way to go. Harley-Davidson produces their own line of custom heated grips that are easy to install and are covered by Harley-Davidson's warranty.

Install a windshield on the handlebars of the V-Rod. Windshields provide protection from rocks and bugs on the road, as well as reducing the amount of wind buffeting you experience while riding. Harley-Davidson's custom V-Rod windshields fit perfectly and install using basic hand tools.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't over-accessorize your V-Rod. In many instances, the simpler you make it, the better the bike will look.
