How to Close a Box With a Packing Tape Handle

A handle-style packing tape dispenser makes quick work of securing packages.

A handle-style tape dispenser removes some challenges of dispensing packing tape and sealing a box by hand. It can be difficult to peel the tape from the roll, maintain your grip on the roll, and cut the tape when finished. A handle dispenser reduces time and effort needed to close a box. The tape automatically peels, the handle provides a solid grip, and the dispenser blade quickly cuts through the tape. You can also use the handle to press the tape firmly against the box to create a stronger seal.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the flaps on the box that you need to tape.

    • 2

Hold the handle on your packing tape dispenser. Position the front of the dispenser at the back of the box, about 2 inches down from the top.

    • 3

Press the tape against the box. Pull the handle toward you to run the tape up the back and across the beginning of the seam where the flaps meet.

    • 4

Push in from the left or right side of the box, near the top, to bring the flaps closer together. Gripping the handle tightly, draw the tape toward you along the seam and then down the front of the box, about 2 inches.

    • 5

Push the handle forward and down to cut through the tape with the blade on the front of the dispenser.

    • 6

Rub the tape against the front of the box with your hand. Rub the seam from front to back with the bottom of the dispenser handle to create a better seal.
