How to Delete a Facebook Account You Can't Access

Facebook is a social-networking utility that helps you keep in touch with friends and acquaintances. If Facebook isn't for you anymore, you might want to delete your account so that your information isn't still available. For security reasons, you must log in to your Facebook account before you can delete it. Otherwise, anyone could delete your account without your permission. If you can no longer access your Facebook account, the solution is to reset your password so that you can access your account and delete it.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Forgot Password" link on the Facebook sign-in screen.

    • 2

Type in the email address associated with your Facebook account.

    • 3

Log in to your email and then locate the email sent by Facebook. Click the link contained in the email. You'll be taken to a page where you can type in a new password and access your account.

    • 4

Click "Account Settings" and then click "Deactivate Account."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't remember what email address you used, you can also log in using your user name. Your user name appears after "http://www.facebook.com" in the browser bar when you view your profile. You could also ask a friend to view your profile and tell you what email address is listed on the account.

  • If you want to permanently delete your account, log in to Facebook and then go to Facebook's "Permanently Delete My Account" Web page. Click "Submit" to delete your account.
