Instructions

    • 1

Secure a veneer punch to your drill press if you have one. A veneer punch is a circular cutter that you will use to remove the damaged section of veneer from the veneer sheet. If you do not have a drill press, move on.

    • 2

Place the veneer onto a piece of flat scrap wood so the entire damaged surface rests over the wood.

    • 3

Spray veneer softener compound onto the veneer approximately five minutes before you plan to remove the material. Simply spray the surface you plan to cut until the surface looks wet. You do not have to saturate the wood.

    • 4

Pull down on the handle on your drill press and carefully press through the wood. If you do not have a drill press, place the punch over the hole and strike the shank with a hammer until the punch cuts through the wood.

    • 5

Place the punch over a piece of scrap veneer or an area on your sheet of veneer that you will not use on your project. Drive the punch through the veneer. This, time, keep the portion of veneer cut out by the punch.

    • 6

Place the veneer adhesive onto the wooden surface you plan to glue the veneer to. Place the sheet of veneer onto the wood and put the plug into the first hole you cut. Line up the wood grain so the grain pattern matches.

    • 7

Secure the veneer per your normal method, either with vacuum pressure or by weighting down the veneer.
