How to Find Your Indian Inheritance
When a loved one chooses you to be a beneficiary of their estate, the executor of his will needs to contact and advise you when you will get the property or money left in your name. However, it is hard to find out your inheritance especially when it was not written down and there is no legal way to prove it. In the Indian constitution, everyone has the right to choose their own religion. There are no set out rules and laws of inheritance to guide its citizens accordingly. They normally use the "Hindu Succession Act" which is passed down the family line. It is shared equally among the deceased wife, children and grandchildren. Times have changed and many Indian citizens have adopted legal methods to find their inheritance.

1
Contact family members to stay in touch with people whom you think will include you in their will. The Indian tradition usually states beneficiaries of an estate as family members. Due to the constant traveling and work related constraints, you need to leave your contacts and forwarding address in case you shift residence.
-
2
Find the exact location of the probate. This is the legally known as the process where the court has the obligation to interpret a will for those who have been named as beneficiaries
-
-
3
Find a court which has the responsibility of conducting a probate. Seek an executor's personal or contact information and get details of when it will be executed. According to the Indian constitution, the executor has the sole responsibility of informing and contacting all the people mentioned in the will. He is not allowed to disclose any information inside until all the parties are present.
-
4
Request a copy of the will. A will should be viewed once the creator dies. Request a copy from a probate court once it has become public. You have the right to view a copy of the will once all the listed parties have been informed.
-
5
Contact an attorney for advice. If your loved one passed on without writing a will, you have the right to inform a lawyer only if you feel you have the right to be given the inheritance. The Indian law states that the first people to be given the priority are the immediate family members. These include a spouse and children of the deceased.
-
6
Hire an inheritance attorney who will search for the deceased's unclaimed assets. These attorneys are known to charge high fees and it will be cheaper if you have sound knowledge of the deceased assets.
-
7
Divide the inheritance in the presence of a family lawyer. If the process gets complicated, you can file for a case with a local court to assist the family in sharing the inheritance.
