  • Mattress Covers
  • Mattress Pads
  • Mattresses
  • Upholstery Attachments For Vacuum
  • Vacuums
  1. Step 1

    Use a mattress pad to prevent stains.

  2. Step 2

    Avoid leaving damp towels or other wet objects on the bed.

  3. Step 3

    Put a mattress cover on children's beds.

  4. Step 4

    Clean a stained or dirty mattress with foaming upholstery shampoo and let it dry.

  5. Step 5

    Vacuum your mattress with an upholstery attachment when you do your spring-cleaning.

  6. Step 6

    Take your mattress outside once a year (when you're doing your spring cleaning)and let it air out in the sun for a day.

  7. Step 7

    Turn a regular mattress over once a month. Flip a futon mattress every other week. Alternate between turning the mattress end to end and side to side to prevent sagging.

  8. Step 8

    Keep children from jumping on the bed.

on 11/22/2005 For the first four times that I flipped my mattress, I numbered the top left hand corner of my mattress cover. This way it evenly gets flipped side-to-side and end-to-end.
