How to Wash Your Ceiling

You don't have to be resigned to living with dust and cobwebs on the ceiling.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tri-sodium Phosphates
  • Old Flannel Shirts (men)
  • Tie Wraps
  • Brooms
  • Crevice Tool Vacuum Attachments
  • Duct Tape
  • Large Sponge
  • Liquid Bleach
  • Upholstery Attachments For Vacuum
  • Vacuum Cleaners
  • Large Sponge
  • Buckets
  • Duct Tape
  • Vacuum cleaners
  1. Step 1

    Vacuum cobwebs a vacuum attachment hose by taping it to the end of a broom handle.

  2. Step 2

    Wrap an old flannel shirt around the straw end of a broom and secure it with a rubber band or tie wraps. Use this device to dust the ceiling, switching to clean areas of the flannel as it gets dirty.

  3. Step 3

    Clean a popcorn or textured ceiling by gently sponging it with a tri-sodium phosphate solution, available at most hardware stores, mixed according to the directions on the can.

  4. Step 4

    Clean stained areas with peroxide or diluted bleach and a sponge.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear gloves and goggles when using chemicals overhead.

on 11/22/2005 Use 1 gallon hot water, 1 quart of bleach, and 1/3 cup dry Tide detergent. Wear gloves and, when done, rinse with clear water.

on 11/22/2005 You can reduce or remove stains from popcorn ceilings by spraying them with a strong bleach solution (1 part household bleach to 1 part water). Be careful to not get the solution on your skin or on anything you don't want bleached!
