How to Convert a Bell 6131 to a PVR

The Bell 6131 satellite receiver can be converted into a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) by hooking up an external hard drive to the receiver. It is a plug and play connection because the receiver is set up to accommodate an external hard drive connection. Bell doesn't require an activation fee for you to use the PVR feature. Once the hard drive is hooked up to the receiver, you can create digital recordings of your favorite TV programs. The recordings are saved to the external drive.

Tips & Warnings

  • At a minimum, the external hard drive you connect to the receiver must have a 7200 RPM rotation speed; a USB 2.0 connector; a memory capacity between 40 gigabytes and 1 terabyte; it must be a single hard drive; and it can't have a sleep mode (meaning it does not power down when idle). Hooking up a 500 gigabyte external hard drive to your 6131 receiver will give you about 60 hours of high-definition recording time and 490 hours of standard-definition recording time.
