How to Make a Milkshake Costume

Save

Whether you want to make a milkshake costume as an unusual Halloween outfit or simply to match your bubbly personality, you will find with careful planning and preparation, it may not be as hard as you think. You will probably need to purchase some supplies in advance. Before starting to construct your costume, make sure you have assembled everything you need. The end result should be an outfit that will shake up the party.

Things You'll Need

  • Two hula hoops - one large, one small
  • White sheeting
  • Ribbons
  • Black felt
  • Black marker pen
  • Red construction paper
  • Clear and white balloons
  • Measure the diameter of the two hoops. Measure the length from your shoulder to mid-calf. This will give you the dimensions to cut out the shape for your costume from the white sheeting.

  • Lay the sheeting out on the floor. Draw a line measuring the length of the longest diameter at one end. Make a mark in the center of that line and draw a vertical line down from it, the same length as your shoulder to calf measurement. Using the vertical line as the center point, draw a horizontal line to the length of the shortest diameter. Add 1 inch extra at each end of the horizontal lines to allow for seams.

  • Draw a diagonal line on each side connecting the ends of the horizontal lines. You should now have a large cup shape with a central vertical line drawn on the sheeting. Cut this out, then use it as a template and cut out another identical piece.

  • Sew the two pieces together along the long diagonal sides and turn right-way out. Fold the wider end over the large hula hoop and sew, pin or glue it in place. Fold the narrower end over the small hula hoop and repeat.

  • Attach long ribbons to the large hula hoop as shoulder straps so the costume hangs from your shoulders when you step inside. Cut a face for your milkshake cup from black felt and glue it in position. Add details with black marker pen.

  • Blow up the balloons and tie them on to the shoulder straps to look like bubbles. Wear white tights underneath your costume.

  • Make a straw by rolling a long piece of red construction paper into a tube that tightly fits the size of your head. Staple or tape it in position, then wear it like a tall hat.
