How to Track AIM Conversations
It used to be that AOL Instant Messenger could not record or track instant messages between two people. This meant that you couldn't retrieve information about what someone just said about something unless you had a third-party program or used a different instant messenger to access AIM. AOL Instant Messenger now has logging capabilities. You can use it to track messages as you IM other people once it's enabled.

Click the "File" menu in AIM, then click "Log Manager."

Click "Open Log" in the window that appears.

Enter a name for your chat log in the file browser that appears, then press "Enter."

Click the "X" button to begin IM logging.
