Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 2-yard-length strands of hemp cord. Fold the hemp cord strands in half, and knot a loop at the top of the cord halves. You will now have four 1-yard-length strands with which to work.

    • 2

Separate the leftmost and rightmost strands from the two center strands. The center strands will serve as the base of the necklace, and the leftmost and rightmost strands will move around the base strands as the necklace is knotted.

    • 3

Using the rightmost cord, cross the cord over the center strands toward the leftmost strand, creating a loop. Place the leftmost cord over the right strand, and string the left strand diagonally underneath the center cords. Pull the left cord up through the center of the right side's loop and pull both strands taut to the top of the necklace.

    • 4

Repeat the looping and threading process of step 3 all the way down the necklace length. The loop will always be made from the right, crossing to the left, which creates the spiraling effect.

    • 5

Knot all four strand ends to complete the necklace. Use the scissors to trim the necklace ends. Thread the knotted ends through the looped end to secure the necklace.

Tips & Warnings

  • Yard-long strands may seem excessive, but each knot takes up a lot of string. Any excess string can be trimmed off once the desired necklace length is reached.

  • It is easiest to complete the knotting process when the necklace top is secured to a hook or a pin. Loop the top of the bracelet around something sturdy, so you pull the strands taut with worrying about the necklace moving around while working.
