The good news for those looking to become plus size models is that the industry is growing and more work is becoming available. However, this field of business is as competitive as any other, and potential models will be competing against hundreds of others. To achieve success, you need to fit the requirements to be a plus size model. Ideally, you should measure between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, and be a dress size 10 to 14. Your body needs to be in proportion, with your waist measuring about 10 inches less than your bust and hips.

1. Think seriously about whether modeling would be a good option for you. To succeed in the industry, you need to have commitment, dedication and determination.

2. Practice taking photos with a friend to see how you behave in front of a camera. Look at the photos to decide whether you are photogenic.

3. Start an exercise regimen designed to tone any problem areas. Remember that you may have to wear bathing suits and lingerie.

4. Search for local modeling agencies and find out their requirements. Speak to other models and read reviews about the companies to ensure they have good reputations.

5. Book a photo shoot or ask a friend to take good-quality photos of you. Most agencies will require at least one head shot and one full body shot (often in a bathing suit). Some agencies will also specify if you should be smiling. Usually you should not pose, to show your natural beauty.

6. Send your photos to the agency, or attend an open call, depending on its particular requirements. Attach a list of your measurements and details of any experience with your photographs, or be ready to give this information at an open call.
