Trojans are malicious files that disguise themselves as legitimate information in order to slip onto your computer. Then they can download and install a variety of other dangerous files. One such file type that a Trojan can install on your computer is called a keylogger. A keylogger file can record every keystroke users make and then send that information over the Internet. This means that any sensitive personal information you type while your computer is infected with a keylogger might be compromised. Fortunately, many available antivirus programs that can remove both Trojans and keyloggers. (See References 1 and 2.)

      Purchase Symantec's Norton AntiVirus. "PC Magazine" lauds Norton's consistently exemplary performance in detecting, removing and preventing future threats. Though the program might be more expensive than most, a subscription offers phone, Internet chat and e-mail technical support for help removing especially stubborn threats. (See Reference 3.)

      Download avast! Free antivirus. According to "PC Magazine," avast! offers protection and removal that rivals many programs with pay-for-subscription protection. While it does not provide the kind of technical support that Norton and other more expensive programs do, it does provide an online threat database and a community forum where members can help with difficult threats. (See Reference 4.)

      Download Panda Cloud Antivirus. This program offers a free edition that makes an ideal "second opinion" scanner to use with another, primary, security program. Instead of downloading and saving another set of virus definitions to your hard drive, this program accesses an online database for the information. You will never have to wait for Panda Cloud to download updates, and you can always be sure that it will use the newest definitions possible each time you scan. This program requires an active Internet connection to both scan and protect. (See Reference 5.)
