The Girl Scouts are credited with the first s'mores recipe when it showed up in one of the Girl Scout Handbooks in 1927. Today, s'mores are made the same way. The traditional campfire treat consists of three basic ingredients: graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. Heat up your marshmallow in a fire and place it directly on the chocolate for a melty, chocolatey treat. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Crack graham crackers in half, so you have a bottom and top for the s'more. Pull off enough chocolate so that it covers the bottom of half a graham cracker.

    • 2

Put the piece of chocolate in an even layer on one half of the graham cracker.

    • 3

Place one marshmallow onto skewer long enough to reach the fire pit. Stick the skewer through the center of the marshmallow.

    • 4

Toast your marshmallow over a safe open flame. Rotate the marshmallow over the fire or coals until the marshmallow is toasted and not burnt. It will be a light brown to dark brown color.

    • 5

Place the marshmallow directly onto the chocolate while it is still attached to the skewer.

    • 6

Take the other graham cracker and place it over the marshmallow. Carefully pull the skewer out of the marshmallow, using the top graham cracker to separate the marshmallow from the skewer.

    • 7

Gently press down lightly to smash the marshmallow over the chocolate. The chocolate will melt with the residual heat from the marshmallow.

Tips & Warnings

  • The chocolate will melt better if it is at room temperature.
