How to Start Microsoft SideNote
SideNote is a Microsoft OneNote component that allows you to take notes while working within an Office application. "SideNote is like a computer sticky note," reports Microsoft. Windows installs the SideNote icon when you install OneNote. All you have to do is start it. You can use Microsoft SideNote to capture ideas, copy information from other programs and review your notes later from within OneNote.

Right-click your system clock on your Windows task bar.

Click "Customize Notification Icons." A window opens and displays a list of icons. This window allows you to choose the icons that you want to appear on your task bar.

Scroll through the list of icons and find "onenotem.exe." This is the OneNote icon. Its image displays the letter "N."

Click the drop-down arrow next to that icon and click "Show Icon and Notifications."

Click "OK." Windows places the SideNote icon in the tray near your clock.

Click the icon to launch SideNote. The SideNote window opens on the right side of your screen. Click the "Dock to Desk" button if you want to dock the window to the side of your screen. A docked window allows you to work efficiently if you need to view other applications as you take notes. For instance, after docking SideNote, you can open your browser, which will appear on the left side of the screen. You can then drag and drop text or images from the browser directly into the SideNote window docked on the right side of the screen.

Tips & Warnings
You can anchor the SideNote window to the side of your screen in Windows 7. This gives you more writing room and allows you to see more of your work area as you take notes. Click the "Dock to Desktop" button at the top of SideNote to dock the window.
Notes you take while using SideNote appear in the "Unified Notes" section of your OneNote notebook.
nYou can also launch SideNote by pressing your "Windows" and "N" keys at the same time.
