If you have a concept for a magazine, you will most likely need a company or investors to help you to launch the publication. You will therefore need to put together a formal presentation to win over your potential backers. You can make a convincing presentation using Microsoft’s PowerPoint program which allows you to add text and visuals to backup what you are saying about your magazine concept.
Identify the audience for the magazine. For example, if your magazine is to focus on monster trucks, you would likely have a predominantly male audience. As you put together the PowerPoint presentation, keep the audience for the magazine in mind.
Setup the PowerPoint presentation to show the magazine concept. Open the program. Click inside the "Title" textbox in the first slide and name your presentation. This can be the working title. Below that, type your name as the subtitle. Then click the "Design" tab. From there, choose a design template that fits your concept. For example, for a magazine geared toward a younger audience, you might choose brighter, bolder colors. A women's magazine might have soft, pastel colors.
Create the next slide of your PowerPoint presentation by going back to the “Home” tab and clicking “New Slide”. Click “Layout” and choose a layout for the textboxes of your slide. In this slide, introduce the basic magazine concept you’re presenting. Include details like the primary audience, examples of the contents, such as a home and garden section or a style section. Add examples of titles for possible articles to make the presentation more concrete.
Create a new slide to break down the cost of launching the magazine. This can include the cost of researching and writing articles, a design team, photographers, freelance professionals, materials to create the magazine and the cost of printing.
Add another slide with information about advertisements. Most magazines generate revenue through advertisements and sale of the publication. The company or investors you’re presenting to will want to know how you plan to make money for them. Include the types of businesses that might purchase ad space in the magazine. For example, a cosmetics company would likely want to advertise in a women’s magazine.
Wrap up the presentation in one final slide. This slide should briefly go over the points you discussed in the presentation and emphasize the value, marketing potential and possibilities for profit.
Put graphics and pictures into the presentation to make it more visually appealing. Select the slide you want to add a visual to by clicking it from the left hand column of the PowerPoint program. Click the “Insert” tab. From here, you can choose to insert pictures, clipart, charts and other graphics.
