How to: Porcelain Memorial Plaques
Memorial plaques are a sincere way of remembering your loved ones who have died; they also can be used to remember war veterans or people who have lost their lives in service to their city. Memorials are increasingly common across the United States as we continue to honor men and women who have been killed in the line of duty. Paint your own porcelain memorial plaque to place upon a grave or in a memorial garden.

1
Clean the porcelain tile with gentle soap and warm water. Dry it thoroughly.
-
2
Paint your memorial message on the tile. For instance, "In loving memory of Sgt. John Smith: 1978-2011." Paint a U.S. flag to show his veteran status. If the person you're honoring is a fallen police officer, paint a replica of his badge onto the tile.

3
Fire up your oven to 300 degrees. Place the tile in the oven for about 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the paint to bake into the porcelain and setting it permanently into the tile.
-
4
Shellac the tile. This will give it a final top coat, ensuring that the memorial message is set permanently. Place the new memorial plaque in a garden or on the grave of the person you're honoring.
