How to Fry Fresh Shrimp
Fresh shrimp can be cooked in a variety of ways. If you want to fry shrimp, you can either pan fry or deep fry them. Both frying methods will create a tasty dish. Deep-fried shrimp are higher in calories since they are cooked in oil. Depending on where you purchase your fresh shrimp, they may need to be deveined first. The vein is the digestive tract of the shrimp and often isn't removed in fresh shrimp. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Sharp knife
- Milk
- Flour
- Vegetable oil
- Large skillet
- Olive oil
- Fresh shrimp
- Paper towels

Check for a vein in the shrimp (it's a dark ribbon down the center of the shrimp). If the shrimp haven't been deveined, make a small cut along the curve of the shrimp and then use the knife to remove the vein.

Rinse your shrimp and pat dry with paper towels.

Fry the shrimp in a pan using about ½ tsp. of olive oil in a skillet set on medium heat. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Season the shrimp if you prefer.

Deep-fry the shrimp by dipping each shrimp first in milk and then in flour. The milk helps keep the flour on the shrimp. Heat 1 1/2 to 2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet set on medium-high heat. About 1 1/2 cups is usually enough but add more if necessary. Place shrimp on the skillet and cook until they turn a golden brown color.
