How to Stop Paltalk Banners

Paltalk is an Internet chat service that comes in free and paid versions. The paid version gives you a green status, in which no ads appear in your chat application. When you use the free, black version, though, you get a lot of advertising. You can configure your computer so it does not accept many of the ads Paltalk brings in.

Instructions

    • 1

Download GFI MailEssentials and install the program. (See Resources.)

    • 2

Go to "Start," then "My Computer" and open the "C:" drive. Locate and open the "Windows" folder. Open the "System 32" folder. Click twice on the "Drivers" folder, then locate and open the "Etc" folder.

    • 3

Locate and right-click the "Hosts" file. Select "Edit" and open the file in Notepad.

    • 4

Locate the line "local host." Type or paste the following command lines under the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line:

      "127.0.0.1 advertising.paltalk.com

      127.0.0.1 static.2mdn.net

      127.0.0.1 content.yieldmanager.edgesuite.net"

      Save and close the file.

    • 5

Open Paltalk and you won't see any more pop-ups, but you will get a "page cannot be displayed" message in the advertising window at the bottom of the Paltalk screen.
