Treat oily skin with powdered talc.

Shiny, greasy skin often plagues those with over productive oil glands. Genetics and hormones commonly dictate how much oil our skin produces and treatment typically consists of topical applications. Two substances known for helping to absorb excess oil from the skin include talc, a soft mineral ground to create talcum powder, and witch hazel, an herb. Clear up oily skin with a combination of methods that use talc and witch hazel in both aqueous and powdered forms. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Combine half talcum powder and half powdered witch hazel in a face powder tin to create an oil-absorbing face powder. Place the lid on the tin and shake it well to combine the powders.

    • 2

Dust your face and any other affected areas on the body with the powder after bathing and once the skin is dry, using a cotton ball or a clean powder brush. Reserve a clean powder brush for use only with the talc and witch hazel powder. Leave the dust on your skin for several seconds then gently wipe off the excess with a soft, lotion-free tissue.

    • 3

Mix together 2 tsp. distilled water, 1 tsp. rubbing alcohol, 1 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1/2 tsp. honey and 1/4 tsp. baking soda in a small mixing bowl to make a talcum powder facial mask. Gradually stir in talcum powder to form a thick paste.

    • 4

Cover your face generously with the paste at night before going to bed. Leave the paste on for 30 minutes then gently rinse it away with warm water. Pat your face dry with a soft towel.

    • 5

Concoct a witch hazel skin toner specifically formulated to promote healthy skin for those with high oil production. In a bottle, combine 1 cup distilled water, 2/3 cup witch hazel astringent and 1/2 cup lemon juice. If available, add a handful of pine needles. Close the bottle and shake the ingredients well.

    • 6

Apply the witch hazel toner periodically to freshen your skin, blotting with a toner-dampened cotton ball.
