How to Do a Cow Smiley on Facebook

Smileys use keyboard characters and symbols.

Facebook doesn't let you post images in status updates or chat, but it does let you use some symbols as well as text art made up of keyboard characters (letters, numbers and punctuation marks). In chat, Facebook translates some text emoticons into small images; as of June 2011, however, there is no pictorial cow smiley in Facebook chat. You can use regular keyboard smileys to make a cow instead.

Instructions

Text Smileys

1. Open your browser and log into Facebook with your username and password.

2. Left-click with your mouse pointer over a text field such as the status update field. Alternatively, navigate to the Notes screen and start a new note; or begin a chat session with one of your Facebook friends.

3. Type ]:(:)) to make a happy cow smiley.

   Type ]:(:)( to make a sad cow smiley.

   Type 3:-o to make a longhorn cow.

   Type 3:(:) ) to make a happy longhorn cow.

   Type 3:@~ to make a grazing cow.

4. Save your status update or note; hit "send" to send your smiley via chat.

Tips & Warnings

• You can use large, elaborate ASCII art in Facebook notes and on your profile. Visit a site such as the Ascii Art Dictionary and look under Cows (www.ascii-art.de/ascii/c/cow.txt).

• Beware of applications offering extra Facebook smileys. They are likely to be scams that could harm your computer or compromise your account.
