Winterization of the sump pump and drains in your home is an essential step to closing down the home in the winter.   • Screwdriver
  • Diffuser cap
  • Wrench

Instructions

    • 1

      Locate the sump pump in the basement of the home.

    • 2

      Loosen the screw that holds the sump pump discharge drain line onto the pump. Pull the discharge drain line off the pump. Place a diffuser cap on the end of the sump pump pipe to prevent water from entering and freezing in the pump.

      Tighten all the connections on the sump pump.

    • 4

      Change the batteries in the high water alarm on the pump.

    • 5

      Angle the drainage pipes coming from the sump pump downward to prevent water from remaining in the pump during the winter.
