Pumpkins are autumn decorations and food.

Pumpkins are traditional decorations for fall, often coming out after the summer has ended. Pumpkins are used to decorate houses, porches and schools through Thanksgiving. Drawing a plain pumpkin is relatively simple because of the basic shape of most pumpkins. Pumpkins come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so there is no wrong way to create your pumpkin drawing.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw the basic outline of your plain pumpkin. In the middle of your paper, draw an oblong circle. Make the pumpkin wide, not tall. Also, make sure the circle isn't perfect. The top should be slightly flatter, not rounded. Some tiny bumps or dimples give the pumpkin a more realistic look.

Give the pumpkin crease lines. Pumpkins are not smooth, they are slightly ridged. To achieve this effect, lightly sketch a line from the top of the pumpkin down to the bottom of the pumpkin, about 1 inch from the left side of the pumpkin's outline. Repeat this step, staying 1 inch inside the previous line, until the pumpkin is completely ridged.

Draw the pumpkin's stalk. At the top of the pumpkin, draw two lines a few inches apart curving up and to the left. Connect them by squaring a line from one to the other. This is the stalk of the pumpkin. Draw a few wavy lines running up and down the stalk to give it a gnarled look.

Give the pumpkin depth. To achieve a more realistic look, you can shade the bottom of the pumpkin. Darken each ridge separately, starting from the bottom and going up about 1 inch. Lighten the shade as you move from the bottom up. This helps lend a third dimension to the pumpkin.
