Make a praying mantis out of paper.

If you want to teach your children about the life cycle, habits, habitat and features of a praying mantis, then lead them in a paper craft in which they use a praying mantis template to craft their own personal insect. You can use a free, printable praying mantis graphic from a website. See Resources for links to examples of such sites. Allow your children to be creative with their praying mantises.

Instructions

    • 1

Print a free praying mantis graphic from a website such as The Color, Paper Shine and ABC Teach. You want to print the graphic on a piece of card stock so that it forms a sturdy template for tracing.

    • 2

Cut out your graphic. Lay it on top of a piece of computer paper or craft paper.

    • 3

Trace the card stock shape on your paper with a pencil.

    • 4

Cut out your praying mantis tracing.

    • 5

Embellish the praying mantis. Color it green with markers. Add googly doll eyes to the praying mantis face with white craft glue. Outline the antennas with a glitter glue pen. Be creative. Use the different designs as inspiration or as models for what children can do with the praying mantis template for future craft projects.
