How to Troubleshoot an XM Roady

The XM Roady is a Sirius XM satellite radio receiver designed to fit into the dashboard of your car. Unlike portable receivers that you can use both in your car and in your home, the Roady must be installed inside your dashboard. If you begin to experience static, interference or other types of disruptions while listening to satellite radio, there are a few things you can do to correct it. Does this Spark an idea?

Look at the "Program Guide" that came with your satellite radio service, and make sure that your subscription allows you to receive the channel you're trying to listen to. Not every XM channel is available on every XM service package. Some channels are only available on "Premium" subscription packages that you may not have.

Make sure the XM radio antenna is properly secured. The XM radio antenna that connects to the Roady is designed to rest on the outside of your car, either at the top of the windshield or on the roof. For the best reception, the antenna has to be in one of these two locations. If the antenna is anywhere else, you might hear distortion and static while trying to listen to XM content.

Adjust the audio capabilities of both the XM Roady and your car stereo. Each device allows you to set the volume of content separately. This means that if your XM Roady is turned all the way up but your car stereo is muted, you will not hear the XM Roady. Likewise, if the stereo and the Roady are turned all the way up, you will probably hear distorted audio because of the levels of each device being too high.

Check your cable connections, and make sure the XM antenna is properly connected to the main Roady unit. The Roady uses the antenna to communicate with the satellites to access your content. If the antenna is positioned properly but is not actually connected to the Roady, you will be unable to pick up content using the unit.
