How to Charge Different Types of Marine Batteries on One Charger
The electrical system in most boats, just like a car, is powered by a 12-volt battery. Boat batteries come in a variety of different types, including flooded lead acid, nickel cadmium (NiCad), AGM and gel batteries. There is a solution for charging your batteries if you have several boats with different batteries. All you need is a programmable battery charger.

1
Hook the battery cables up to your charger and to the battery as indicated by the instruction manual for the specific battery type you're charging. Be sure you connect red (positive) to red. And black (negative) to black. Each battery has its own charging requirements, so you need to be sure which kind you're charging when hooking it up.

2
Turn on the battery charger. On the program panel, select the type of battery you're charging (NiCad, gel, AGM or lead acid) and the voltage of the battery (6 or 12 volt are most common for marine batteries). Once you've selected the specifics, the charger detects what battery it's connected to, and how to charge it. Push the start button.

Monitor the charging battery until the charge is complete. Turn off the programmable battery charger, and then disconnect the cables from the battery.
