How to Make Your Own Weave Cap

How to Make Your Own Weave Cap thumbnail
You can experiment with different styles using weave caps.

Weaves can damage your hair and cause it to break off. They are also expensive to get and will only last for a few weeks before they need to be taken out. To prevent damage, you can wear a weave that is not actually applied to your hair. Quick weaves are hair extensions applied to a weave cap. Weave caps are available in many beauty supply stores, or you can make your own weave cap and glue synthetic or human hair to it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Braid your natural hair in cornrows, or pull it back as you would wear it underneath the wig cap.

    • 2

Cover your head with a stocking cap. Make sure the cap is centered and situated atop the crown of your head as it would normally be worn.

    • 3

Tie the center of the stocking cap into a knot with your hand.

    • 4

Remove the stocking cap from your head and place it on a wig form.

    • 5

Cut the base of the knot on the stocking cap away with scissors. This will leave a hole in the center of the stocking cap.

    • 6

Stitch the hole closed in the center of the stocking cap with a needle and thread. Use a thin fabric that will firmly close the hole, but not add bulk to the stocking cap. Secure the end of the thread by tying it in a knot when the hole is closed.

    • 7

Remove the hair extension from the packet. Brush the hair out, and lay it flat on a table.

    • 8

Place the weft, or sewed edge of the hair extension one inch above the nape of the stocking cap that is on the wig form. Determine how wide the track must be to complete that section. Then cut away any excess track.

    • 9

Dab small spots of weave glue on the weft. Then stick the weft end of the track to the stocking cap.

    • 10

Stick the weft end of the track to the glue and hold it in place for several seconds until it has adhered.

    • 11

Move up one inch and follow the steps above to secure the next tracks to the stocking cap. When gluing the track that will reach your ear level, begin to glue the tracks in a circle that follows the circumference of your hair until you've reach the crown.

    • 12

Brush the weave tracks out after they are all glued in place. Then trim and style as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of a wig form, you can apply the weave to the stocking cap while it is on your head. But to prevent the weave glue from sticking to your hair, place a shower cap underneath the stocking cap.
