How to Crochet Blueberries

How to Crochet Blueberries thumbnail
Crochet a single blueberry with four-ply yarn.

To crochet a blueberry, use a single crochet stitch. Make individual berries and connect them together by stitching or using a hot glue gun. The same process is used to make blueberries with crochet cotton or yarn. A smaller crochet hook is used when crocheting with crochet cotton. These are more difficult to make because the thread is so small. Crochet your first blueberry using a size G crochet hook and yarn.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a slip knot 3 inches from the end of the yarn. Cross and loop the yarn 3 inches from the end. Insert your thumb and forefinger through the loop. Pinch the long piece of yarn. Pull the long piece of yarn through the loop. Pull the 3-inch end to make a slip knot.

    • 2

Place the slip knot on the hook end of the crochet hook. Slid the slip knot up the shaft approximately one-half inch. Pull the long piece of yarn to adjust the size of the loop so it slides easily on the crochet hook's shaft.

    • 3

Chain two stitchs. A chain stitch is made by looping the long end of the yarn over the hook. Pull the loop in the hook through the loop on the shaft. A chain stitch is made. Repeat the process for a second chain stitch. The second chain stitch counts as the first stitch in the first row of single crocheted stitches.

    • 4

Single crochet four times in the second chain from the loop. A single crochet is completed by inserting the tip of the crochet hook in the top of the second loop of the chain. In this instance, the second loop from the chain is the first chain stitch made with the slip knot. Wrap the long end of the yarn around the crochet hook. Pull the loop through the top loop of the chain stitch. Wrap the long yarn around the end of the hook. Pull it through the two loops on the shaft. Repeat the process four more times in the same loop on the chain.

    • 5

Slip stitch to the first stitch in the row to form a circle. Insert the tip of the hook through the chain stitch that forms the first stitch in the single crochet row. Wrap the long piece of yarn around the end of the crochet hook. Pull the loop through the chain and through the loop on the crochet hook.

    • 6

Chain one stitch. This counts as the first stitch in the second row. Single crochet in the remaining four single crochet stitches. Slip stitch the row together.

    • 7

Chain one stitch. Decrease four stitches by inserting the tip of the crochet hook through the next loop. Wrap the long piece of yarn around the crochet hook. Pull it through the stitch. Repeat until five loops are on the shaft of the crochet hook. Wrap the long piece of yarn around the end of the crochet hook. Pull the loop through the five loops on the shaft of the crochet hook.

    • 8

Cut the long piece of yarn approximately 3-inches from the end of the crochet hook. Pull the cut end of the yarn through the last crocheted loop. Pull the 3-inch end tightly to form a knot.

    • 9

Hide the tails of yarn inside the blueberry. Insert the tip of the crochet hook through the middle row of the blueberry and out through one end by a tail. Loop the tail around the crochet hook. Pull the loop through the center of the blueberry and out the other side. Cut off the excess yarn. Repeat the process with the remaining tail.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 1 through 9 for additional crocheted blueberries.
