How to Tie Off Singer Serger Threads
A serger or merrow machine is a sewing machine that creates an overlock stitch; the primary stitch used for knit seams in the fashion industry. An overlock is a stitch created using 4 threads that loop over the cut edge of the fabric and create a stay stitch that stretches with the fabric. The overlock stitch cuts the seam allowance as it sews, creating an even and consistent stitch. A back stitch is not an option on a Singer serger, so to tie off the end of the stitch, a new approach is needed.

1
Sew the seam with the Singer serger.
-
2
Continue to sew for 2-inches beyond the fabric edge, creating a "tail."
-
-
3
Turn the machine around and sew through the tail, bisecting and cutting it off 1/4 inch from the seam edge. This creates a lock-stitch at the end of your seam allowance.
-
4
Clip any excess threads using the scissors.
