How to Fix Bad Ratio in Azureus
Vuze, formerly known as Azureus, is a BitTorrent client that was released in 2003. It was renamed "Vuze" in 2008. The peer-to-peer application enables users to download torrents from websites, which in turn allows them to obtain files from other users. As users download one part of a file, they simultaneously upload parts of the file already received to other users in the background. Some programs, such as Vuze, show a download ratio, which compares downloads to uploads. If you download more than you upload, your ratio will be bad. To fix this on Vuze, you have two options: leave Vuze running more often to allow more uploads or delete and then re-install the program to reset the ratio.
Instructions
-
Resetting the Ratio
-
1
Download the Vuze installer from SourceForge.
-
2
Click "Start" "Control Panel" and then "Uninstall a Program" or "Programs and Features."
-
-
3
Right-click on Vuze (or Azureus, if you have an older version) and choose "Uninstall." The program will be removed from your computer.
-
4
Double-click on the file downloaded in Step 1 to launch the Vuze installer. This will likely erase your configuration settings.
-
5
Follow the on-screen prompts provided by the Vuze installer wizard to re-install the program on your computer.
-
6
Open Vuze. Your ratio should be reset to zero.
Upload More
-
7
Download a file from a torrent website. This may be a file you want or just one that you can use to raise your ratio. Files in high demand, indicated by a high number of downloaders, will generally raise your ratio because users are actively trying to get the parts of that file.
-
8
Wait for the download to finish. You can also increase your upload ratio by going to "Configuration" and then "Transfer." This will allow the program to use more of the bandwidth for uploading, allowing users to get the files quicker and increasing your ratio faster.
-
9
Leave Vuze open after your download has finished. Often, users close the program once a download is complete. This stops the upload process and damages your ratio. By leaving Vuze open, you will continue to upload. This is called "seeding."

Tips & Warnings
A good ratio will always come from seeding (uploading) more than you leech (download). If you download a file and then upload the same amount of data, your ratio will neither increase nor decrease.
