How to Draw a Skimmer Basket
A skimmer basket helps keep pools clean by filtering out any medium- to large-sized debris that might fall into this area. These accessories are featured on the sides of pools and feature opening doors to control the amount of water that is filtered at once. To draw a picture of a skimmer basket, select an image that is best angled to reflect what you have in mind for this activity.

1
Draw a rectangular shape in the middle of your page to represent the basic guidelines of your skimmer basic. Use light pencil strokes, as you will be altering and erasing this rough draft several times throughout this drawing.
-
2
Study the picture you are using as a reference and notice how this basket is angled. Round out the bottom and top of the rectangle so that it provides a three-dimensional appearance to your object.

3
Extend the top of the skimmer basket to create the defined lip. The top of this basket should be a wide, flattened oval in shape. Your skimmer basket should look more cylindrical in shape by this point.
-
4
Draw vertical lines across the the main body of the skimmer basket, making sure that these lines are evenly-spaced and as close together as possible. Draw horizontal lines, evenly-spaced and close together, down the entire body. These lines form together to create the mesh texture that filters the water in the pool.
-
5
Trace all of the lines carefully with an ink pen to create a bold and clean appearance to your skimmer basket. Take your time when inking over all of the horizontal and vertical lines to create the mesh body, as these lines need to be drawn as straight as possible. Use a ruler if necessary.
-
6
Let the ink dry, then completely erase all remaining pencil marks on the page. Use your pen to create cross-hatched lines at the top, inner-side of the skimmer basket. This shading technique will give a bit of depth to your drawing, giving it a more realistic appearance.
