Instructions

    • 1

Cut the cardboard into a square that measures 5 1/2-inches on each side for a template. Cut out 64 squares of the various fabrics using the template.

    • 2

Use the compass to make a 3-inch diameter circle on the cardboard. Cut out the circle for a template. Trace around the circle template with the fabric pencil on a piece of fabric. Cut out the fabric circle, adding 1/4-inch past the pencil line. Repeat for 64 circles.

    • 3

Cut the cardboard into a second square that measures 5 1/2-inches. Cut the square into four triangles by cutting through the square from opposite corner to corner. Use one triangle as a template. Trace the triangle on a piece of fabric. Cut out the triangle, adding 1/4-inch past the pencil line. Repeat for 64 triangles.

    • 4

Applique a fabric circle to the center of one of the fabric squares, turning the edge under with the needle at the pencil line and stitching the circle in place with tiny stitches. Applique a triangle to the square with the same method, matching up one bottom triangle edge with one square edge. The triangle will pierce the circle when placed on any edge of the square.

    • 5

Applique 65 moons over the mountain squares. Sew the squares together in rows of eight on the sewing machine to make the 40-inch square quilt top. Cut the batting and muslin to the same size as the quilt top and layer the muslin, batting and quilt top on a flat surface.

    • 6

Insert a safety pin in the center of each quilt block to connect all three layers. Insert the quilt in a quilt frame. Sew through all seam lines with the needle and thread.

    • 7

Cut a 2-inch wide length of muslin the length of the perimeter of the quilt for quilt binding. Sew the binding to the edge of the quilt, fold it over 1/2-inch twice and hand stitch the binding to the back of the completed quilt.
