How to Bathe Pomeranians
Pomeranians are a small dog breed. These dogs need to be brushed regularly but only bathed every two to six months. The natural oils from the dog need to build up on the fur for it to be healthy, shiny and manageable. When bathing your pom, take extra efforts to make it a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Otherwise the dog may get scared or restless for future bathing.

1
Thoroughly brush your Pomeranian. Get behind the legs, tail and ears. Brush out all knots.
-
2
Run warm water in your sink or tub. The depth should not be any higher than the dog's knees. Too much water can frighten the dog and make it nervous.

-
3
Slowly lower the dog into the water. Let him get used to the water and the surroundings. This transition period is important, especially if you are going to bath the dog yourself regularly and want him to be comfortable with the procedure on subsequent bathings.

Use a cup or your hands to thoroughly, but gently, wet the dog's fur. Avoid the face, however. Pour a small amount of dog shampoo on your hands and rub your hands together to disperse the shampoo. Run your hands through the dog's fur, lathering gently as you go. Use a small, circular motion with your fingertips, from the front of the dog to the tail, to lather and massage the shampoo into the fur.

5
Rinse the shampoo thoroughly from the fur with warm water. Again, avoid spraying water into the dog's face.
-
6
Lift the dog from the water and wrap him in a towel. Dry the dog thoroughly. Use more than one towel if needed. The dog may shiver if he gets cold.
-
7
Brush the dog's fur once the dog is toweled off. For best results, brush the hair while still slightly damp.

Tips & Warnings
Never leave the dog unattended in the water. Try to keep your hands on the dog or nearby at all times. Brush the pom two to three times a week to avoid matted hair or knots. Lightly mist the hair with water or a spray conditioner before you run a bristle or doggie brush through the fur.
