How Do I Get Moomba Without a Pocketstation on "FF8"?
"Final Fantasy VIII" (or "FF8") was a role-playing game developed by Square (now Square Enix) for the original PlayStation and PC platforms. The game dazzled role-playing game enthusiasts with flashy battles that allowed players to summon majestic creatures to their aid. The Moomba is one ally that can be summoned during combat to repeatedly kick and claw opponents. This cameo occurs when players use the "Friendship" item obtained from "Chocobo World," a mini-game accessed via the PocketStation peripheral. Unfortunately, the PocketStation was never released outside of Japan, forcing many gamers to seek alternative ways to obtain their Moombas.

1
Obtain the PC version of "FF8." Unlike the PlayStation and PlayStation Network versions of the game, "FF8" for the computer is pre-loaded with "Chocobo World." Players can access the game once they obtain a Chocobo in "Final Fantasy." Bear in mind that the process of getting the Friendship from Cactaur in "Chocobo World" is long and arduous unless players choose to set the "Event Wait" option to "Off." Doing this will prompt the game to play itself.

Hack "FF8" to add the Friendship item to your inventory. If you have no desire to endure the "Chocobo World" game, download an unofficial character editor/trainer for the PC port of "FF8" or hack the console version with a GameShark item modification code. Obtain a GameShark device from eBay, but bear in mind that the GameShark CDX is only compatible with later versions of the console (such as the PS One). Purchase the PlayStation GameShark Pro if you own an original model PlayStation and plug the device into the high-speed parallel port in the back of the console to activate it.

Download hacked saves for the PC and PlayStation versions of the game. These files allow players to start from the beginning with the Friendship and other rare "Chocobo World" items. To obtain a save game file for the PlayStation version of "FF8," you will need to purchase a DexDrive device. For the PC version, simply download a save file and add it to the save directory.

Tips & Warnings
The PocketStation was never released outside of Japan, but it is still compatible with PlayStation consoles of all regions. If you have a working PSX and a strong desire to summon Moombas, you may as well get a PocketStation on eBay. Plug the device into the second memory card slot, load up a saved game, and if you already have access to a Chocobo, you can choose to play "Chocobo World" from the in-game menu.
Though the programs can aid you in summoning Moombas without a PocketStation, character editors and cheat devices are not supported by the game's developer,
