How to Make Lava for a Volcano
When you think of a volcano, you probably imagine a sudden burst of red hot lava erupting at any moment. Turn this thought into a reality, with this simple recipe that uses ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. Try this lava recipe in your own homemade volcano or in a styrofoam cup. Whichever you choose, make sure to stand back-- the lava could erupt at any time.
Things You'll Need
- Red food coloring
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
- Dishwashing liquid
- Funnel
- Plastic beverage bottle

Place the funnel in the mouth of the bottle. Pour in baking soda until it is about 1/4 full. Pour in a few tablespoons of dishwashing liquid.

Mix 1/4 cup vinegar and several drops of red and orange food coloring in a separate container.

Pour the vinegar mixture into the funnel. Stand back and await the eruption.

Tips & Warnings
To make a simple volcano, apply clay, in a mountain shape, around the outside of the container. Let it dry and then practice your explosion.
