Households that meet the income limit for their size are eligible to receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families -- TANF. The program, which is available nationwide, gives families a monthly cash allowance to pay for basic expenses including, but not limited to, housing, food and clothing. In Texas, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission administers the program. The agency provides an online system and a toll-free telephone number for applicants to check on their benefit application status and other related information.
Go to the homepage of the “Your Texas Benefits” website. Click anywhere inside the “View My Case” box. The system takes you to the “Login or Set Up Account” page.
Click the yellow “Set Up Account” button. A new page opens up, displaying boxes for your answers to a few personal questions.
Type your answers in the appropriate boxes. In addition to your name, the system asks for your date of birth, Social Security number and gender. Make up a user name and password. Type them below your personal information. Answer three security questions to finish setting up your account.
Return to the homepage of “Your Texas Benefits.” Select “See the Status of Your Form” in the “View My Case” Box. The system takes you the login page. Enter your user name and password in the appropriate boxes to retrieve the information you need.
