How to Replace a Speaker Crossover

A crossover that is connected to the speakers in your vehicle is called a passive crossover. If you have a crossover that is damaged or requires an upgrade, the existing crossovers need to be replaced. To do this, you will require a new crossover with the proper connections. The existing crossover should be attached to the speaker and speaker wire at each location with a spade connector.

Instructions

    • 1

      Access the speaker in the driver's-side door. This will require removing the inner door panel.

      Locate the crossover attached to the speaker. Disconnect the spade connector from the positive speaker terminal. Disconnect the male connector on the speaker wire from the female connector.

      Attach a male spade connector to one end of a wire from the passive crossover. Secure the connector to the speaker wire with the crimping tool.

      Attach a second male spade connector to the opposite wire on the crossover. Secure the connector to the speaker wire with the crimping tool.

      Plug a male connector into the terminal on the speaker. Plug the other male connector into the female connector on the end of the speaker wire.

      Repeat this process to replace the remaining speaker crossovers in your vehicle.
