How to Sign Into Two Profiles on the PS3

Unlike its predecessors, the PlayStation 3 introduced indivuality with user profiles; this means if you want to get trophies for playing a game, you need to sign in to your profile first. Two players can sign in at the same time depending on the game you are playing, but both will need to have their own controllers. If the game you want to play doesn't support two profiles, the second player must enter as a guest.

Signing In and Out of a PlayStation Profile

  • From the PlayStation 3 dashboard, navigate to the first category, Users. If you don't already have an account, you can create one here; otherwise, highlight your profile and select "X" to sign in. As the first player, you get all the benefits playing the game; you'll earn trophies for what you do in the game, but the second player is just along for the ride without them.

Playing Supported Co-Op Games

  • Not all games are created equal on the PlayStation 3; some let you have two users logged in while others run everything off one profile, treating all other local players as guests of the host. If you're playing a game that supports two profiles like "LittleBigPlanet" or "Resistance 2," press the "PS" button on a second open the dashboard, allowing you to sign in to your profile as normal.
