  Select your costume and makeup preferences. Practice getting into your costume and walk around in it to become comfortable. Practice applying your clown makeup until you can do it quickly and easily.

  Determine what type of personality you would like for your magic clown persona. Clowns can be goofy, but magicians can be mysterious. It's up to you to decide what type of magic clown you want to be. Practice doing ordinary things with your clown persona so that you feel natural when it is time for you to perform.

  Come up with an act. Decide what you are best at and what tricks you already know or can learn easily. Mix clown acts, such as juggling and pranking, with magician acts such as hypnosis and disappearing acts. Practice your act with your props and volunteers if desired.

  Advertise yourself. Hand out flyers and business cards and spread the word about your business or hobby through social media networking and word of mouth. Provide contact information so that clients can reach you.

  Perform for clients and, if the gig goes successfully, ask them if you can use them as a reference for future clients. Give them a business card or flyer so they can contact you again or in case they have an acquaintance that may want to hire a magician clown for an event.
