Instructions for a Gateway 6MSBG Laptop Battery
The Gateway 6MSBG is a laptop battery used on many models of HP laptops. This is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can power your laptop while you're on the move. To get the best use out of this battery, you'll need to know a few things about it: how to charge the battery so its ready when you need it, and how to replace it. You may need to replace it if it loses performance over the years or you may wish to switch between multiple batteries to stay unplugged longer.

Recharge the Battery

Connect the two portions of the power cable together. Insert the power cable, which plugs into the wall, into the AC adapter, which looks like a plastic brick.

Plug the AC adapter cable into the power port on your laptop. This will be a small round hole on the back or side of the computer; its location will depend on your Gateway model.

Plug the power cable into a wall outlet. Your computer will run off of the power supplied by the outlet and begin to charge the battery. You can use your computer as normal while the battery charges.

Unplug the power cord to run your computer off of the battery.
Replace Battery

Shut down your Gateway laptop and unplug the power cord. Turn the computer over and lay it top-down on a flat work surface.

Unlock the battery by sliding the battery lock switch to the "Unlock" position. This is labeled with an image of an open lock and is located to the right of the battery.

Slide the battery release lever, which is located at the bottom left corner of the battery, to the left. This will disconnect the battery from the laptop. Slide the battery out while holding the release lever in place.

Slide the new battery into the battery compartment until you hear the release lever snap into place. Slide the lock into place and your battery is installed.

Tips & Warnings
If you find your computer is inaccurately displaying the available battery power, you may need to run a calibration. Hold "F2" during startup to open the BIOS configuration utility. Enable "Battery Auto-Learning" from the "Advanced" menu and exit the BIOS while saving your changes. The calibration process can take multiple hours.
Store the battery at room temperature as high heat or low temperatures can cause the battery to malfunction.
