How to Get the Capacity of a Laptop Battery Up
Taking good care of your laptop battery is important for maximizing the length of each charge and extending its overall life. When cared for correctly, most laptop batteries will last one to two years. By recharging the battery periodically and protecting it from unnecessary damage, you will be doing your part to protect your investment and get the most out of your current laptop battery.

Maximize Battery Life
-
1
Dim your computer screen when you are running off your laptop battery to reduce the power demand on the battery. An easy way to do this is to put your computer into "power saving" mode by modifying the settings in your laptop's control panel.
-
2
Exit programs you aren't currently using and end unnecessary processes.
-
-
3
Disable your laptop's wireless and Bluetooth settings if you aren't using them. Wireless connectivity drains your battery even if you aren't actively using the Internet. Prevent access to Wi-Fi networks by switching your computer's wireless switch to the "off" position.
-
4
Minimize use of your computer's CD/DVD drive. Watching movies or listening to music on your laptop drains the battery much faster than normal.
Extend the Battery Life
-
5
Prevent your laptop from overheating -- a dangerous scenario for your laptop battery. Use a cooling pad when using your computer on your lap, a couch or other soft surface, and keep the vents clear of dust and debris.
-
6
Remove the battery or unplug your computer when it's not in use. Your battery continues to charge when your laptop is plugged in, which gradually reduces your battery's capacity over time. When not in use, store your battery in a cool, dry place.
-
7
Discharge the battery completely and then recharge it fully at least a few times a month. Batteries that are left idle for weeks or months at a time eventually lose their ability to charge altogether. By keeping the battery "active," you maintain its capacity and extend its overall life.
