How Can I See My Video Files Full Screen on Mozilla Firefox?

Some Internet users are old enough to remember when dial-up Internet, poor video compression and semi-archaic Web technologies made streaming video nearly impossible. But not anymore -- video streaming is central to Web browsing, and the major Web browsers -- including Mozilla's Firefox -- can handle embedded video files and even allow you to view them full screen.

Instructions

Open a new browser window in Firefox and find a video you want to watch. Try something from YouTube, because the embedded video code on YouTube allows you to watch videos in full-screen mode. Let the video load for a few seconds and then click the four-way arrow at the bottom right of the video, which should prompt Firefox to load the video in full-screen mode.

Try a video from a different streaming website. If the YouTube video loaded properly in full-screen mode in Step 1, you know that Firefox is working correctly. Some videos on some websites have been coded not to allow for full-screen mode. This is a choice of certain Web developers, who might feel as if their videos won't look good on a full screen. If the video isn't coded to allow you to view it in full screen, you won't be able to.

Watch a video that won't go full screen in Firefox in a different Web browser, such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer (which comes preloaded on every Windows PC). If the video can go full screen in Explorer but not in Firefox, then you know you have a Firefox issue. If the video won't load full screen in any browser, then the issue is with the video -- not your computer or browser.

Check for updates for Firefox, Flash and Silverlight (see Resources). These latter two programs play different types of video content that you may come across in Firefox, and it's possible that a video has been encoded for a newer version of the player than what you have. Updating your software is usually automatic -- a website with newer code prompts Firefox to find an update -- but you can shut off automatic updates and stop your Web browser from evolving. When you visit these sites with Firefox, the website should detect your version and tell you if your computer is up to date.
