How to Draw a Neck
A realistically drawn human body or bust looks amateurish if the neck is inaccurately rendered. Necks can come in a variety of sizes, lengths, and thicknesses. How you draw the neck will depend on the body type and features of the character you are drawing, or the photograph you are copying.

1
Sketch a downward facing, elongated C-shape to represent the subject's shoulders. Draw a vertical line through the center of the C-shape.
-
2
Decide whether your subject will have a narrow, slender neck or a short and stout neck. Sketch a parallel line on either side of the center vertical line, using the thickness you determined. These will outline the subject's neck.

3
Draw the neck shape. Draw a line that curves from the outermost neck lines to the sides of the C-shaped shoulders.
-
4
Add collar bones and neck details. Draw two small V-shaped lines at the base of the neck, located just beneath the crossing guidelines. Use your reference picture as a guide when placing the collar bones.
-
5
Draw over the finished neck using pen. Allow the ink to dry completely before erasing all pencil guidelines.
